What is Glycerin Soap?

Glycerin soap is made by combining a natural vegetable oil base with lye, otherwise known as sodium hydroxide.  Vegetable glycerin is the natural byproduct of the fats combining with the lye. Fragrance (typically added with essential oils) and other botanicals can be added to provide additional benefits to the skin and give it a fabulous smell.

1. All-Natural Soap – Free Of Toxins

The skin is highly porous and absorbs much of what we put on it into our body. The cold process to make glycerin soap takes time, but produces an all-natural product free of chemicals. This makes it an ideal choice for people with allergies. Divine Soap Company takes your skin sensitivities very seriously and try very hard to only use the best most natural products.

2. Highly Moisturizing

Glycerin is a humectant, which means it attracts moisture and draws it deep into your skin to keep it hydrated. If you’ve been using a commercial soap for a long time, you may find your skin has become dry, flaky, and tight. Using glycerin on your face and body will draw moisture to your skin, and lock the water molecules in place. Your skin may feel moist for several hours after use, so when you use it regularly, you should feel your skin softening. When your skin stays properly hydrated, it helps prevent wrinkles and stretch marks. This makes glycerin soap an anti-aging product, since it keeps your skin healthy all the time. As such, it’s a great choice for people who have dry or sensitive skin. Since glycerin soap naturally has a low pH, the skin is able to retain its natural moisture and remain fresh throughout. When you use commercial soaps, your skin often dries out. Your body tries to compensate for this by making more oil. In the end, it just clogs your pores, and can contribute to blemishes. If you’re already dealing with acne, this is the last thing you need.

3. You Can Use It for Face Wash

Glycerin soap will clean the body and leave the skin feeling soft and supple. When used as a face wash, glycerin soap will remove the excess oil from the skin to unclog pores. It won’t dry out the skin the way harsh treatments do to create a vicious cycle of oil production > clogged pores > acne > dry skin > oil production. It’s a great cleanser for those of us with oily skin.

4. You Can Use It Instead of Shampoo

Using glycerin soap to wash your hair in place of commercial shampoo reduces the detergents, silicone, and other chemicals that are hard on your hair and strip it of the natural oils it too, needs to be healthy. If you deal with dry scalp, this can help tremendously.

6. Dermatologists Recommend Glycerin Soap

Whether you have normal, dry, oily, combination, or sensitive skin, glycerin soap is okay to use. Sensitive skin is prone to reactions from certain synthetic ingredients in commercial soap. If you find yourself dealing with frequent itching and redness, try an all-natural glycerin soap. You may be surprised to find your cleanser was the problem all along. If you suffer from any kind of skin disorder, like eczema or psoriasis, it is safe to use as well.   Many skin disorders are a result of underlying health conditions, regardless of your skin type. However, if you’re dealing with damage because of too much sun exposure, irritation because of an allergic reaction, or other temporary issue, you can still use glycerin soap to help get your skin back to normal health.

7. It’ll Save You Money

And as if you needed another reason to give it a try… when you consider using glycerin soap means you won’t need to pay for expensive moisturizers, acne treatments, and other “fancy” anti-aging products in your skin care routine, you’ll suddenly find a bit more money in your budget for fun stuff. So, we challenge you to take a quick look at what’s in your bathroom. Take a few minutes to read the labels. When the shock wears off, toss them in favor of all natural glycerin soap. You’ll be glad you did.
